Derek Deakins – Violin, Fiddling, Ensemble

Derek Deakins brings together the worlds of classical violin, American fiddling, and orchestral music. Having begun Suzuki violin studies at age five, he has gone on to perform throughout the United States and internationally. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education from Belmont University, a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from East Carolina University, and a Doctorate in Music Education.

In addition to his performing career, 

Derek has recorded and produced multiple albums and served as a Director of Orchestras. He is also a teaching artist at Walt Disney World in Orlando. At the Florida Music Institute, he draws on this varied background to bring energy and perspective to violin instruction, fiddling, and ensemble playing.

Lisa Deakins is passionate about bringing together classical violin training and the rich traditions of fiddle music. A Suzuki violin teacher and accomplished performer, she holds a Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music Performance and a Master of Music in Music Education with a concentration in Suzuki pedagogy.

Her performance experience includes appearances at venues across the country, including the Grand Ole Opry. Lisa is the founder of Deakins Suzuki Strings and the author of the Fiddlin' Favorites series. Through her teaching, she encourages students to explore different musical styles, develop their individual voices, and discover the joy of making music.

Christopher Fiore began his musical journey on the cello at age four and later expanded his studies to include double bass. He earned degrees in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and DePaul School of Music, where he studied with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

A dedicated performer and educator, Christopher has taught students of all ages and performed throughout the United States and internationally. His approach combines a strong foundation in instrumental technique with an emphasis on musical expression. At the Florida Music Institute, he brings both professional experience and a thoughtful approach to helping young cellists grow as musicians.

James Hutchins is an experienced Suzuki violin educator and registered teacher trainer whose work has taken him to workshops and institutes around the world. With bachelor's and master's degrees in violin performance and pedagogy, he brings a deep understanding of both instrumental development and the Suzuki approach to music education.

Through years of teaching and teacher training, James has developed a particular appreciation for the role of thoughtful instruction, consistent practice, and ensemble experiences in a student's musical growth. At the Florida Music Institute, he shares this experience with students, encouraging them to refine their skills, expand their musicianship, and enjoy making music together.

David Madsen is a leading figure in Suzuki guitar education and teacher development. In 1990, he founded the Hartt Suzuki Guitar Program in West Hartford, Connecticut, helping establish a strong foundation for Suzuki guitar instruction. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the University of Connecticut and is a registered Suzuki teacher trainer.

David's contributions to Suzuki education extend well beyond the classroom. He has led teacher training courses throughout North America, Singapore, Peru, and Argentina, and has served on both the Suzuki Association of the Americas Guitar Committee and its Board of Directors. At the Florida Music Institute, he brings decades of pedagogical experience and a commitment to nurturing thoughtful, expressive, and confident young guitarists.

Charles Regauer brings an international perspective to violin and viola instruction, shaped by his musical education and teaching experience in Brazil, the United States, and Mexico. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and a Master of Music from the University of New Mexico, with concentrations in viola performance and violin pedagogy. He is also a registered Suzuki teacher trainer.

Charles has taught at Suzuki workshops and institutes throughout the Americas and currently serves as an instructor and administrator at the Centenary Suzuki School in Shreveport, Louisiana. His work reflects a strong commitment to Suzuki pedagogy, ensemble education, and the development of well-rounded musicians. At the Florida Music Institute, he shares this experience with students across both violin and viola.

Adam Whiting is a collaborative pianist whose musicianship plays an essential role in bringing performances to life. With bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance and accompanying, he has worked extensively with instrumental students and faculty in a variety of educational settings.

His experience includes serving as staff accompanist at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, the Oregon Suzuki Institute, and other Suzuki programs throughout the United States. At the Florida Music Institute, Adam works closely with students and faculty in lessons, rehearsals, and performances, helping young musicians develop confidence, musical independence, and a strong sense of collaboration.
